Men’s Fashion Week (MFW) and the Aveda Charity Walk 2012

April 26, 2012  |  Events, Exclusive, Fashion  |  Share
UPDATE: Just a quick update, I’m no longer doing PR/Biz Development for Jeric Salon, as of April 28, 2012. Will be transitioning to a Jeric Salon sponsored blogger instead. Do keep a look out on my latest happenings via my latest posts.

I’m really glad to see the increase in emphasis on men’s fashion in Singapore. Quite frankly, I’m very new in this industry and am learning bit by bit, day by day.

Always having been a nerd (and still am) all my life, my interest in fashion only started while I was in National Service (NS); where my upper-study was a model. He taught me some stuff about personal grooming, fashion, and the entertainment industry, wetting my appetite for this multi-faceted industry.

Through my friends in the industry, I had the privilege to attend many events in the entertainment industry over the past year, but the Men’s Fashion Week was an eye opener. Running on a SGD8 million dollar budget with some of the biggest names in fashion present to witness the event, expectations are sky high.

One of the VPs of Marina Bay Sands giving a speech at the closing ceremony event. One of the more memorable comments he made was that he only had concrete rooms to let out, but the magic happens when a slice of creativity is added to turn concrete into gold.

It seems that this year’s style spots many animal prints (leopard, zebra, etc) and studs… I might be designing my own shirts really soon… Keep a look out! ^_^

Wanted to order my favorite “black-forest” drink, but they ran out of cherries, so I had to make do with Caramel Mocha instead.

Ok.. That’s all for the mens’s fashion week since I only went on the last day during the closing ceremony…

Jeric Salon’s JCut at JCube Grand Opening

April 11, 2012  |  Exclusive, Jeric Salon, Parties  |  Share

This is a way long overdue post that should have came out last week!!!! Sorry!!!!

I’m really excited that I’ve visited JCube on it’s opening last monday. I went there right after school to meet Jeric.. and… When I came out of Jurong East MRT station… There were already streams of people walking towards this new icon of the west!

Frankly, as an eastie, I really don’t like going to the western part of Singapore because it feels so far away… And of three times I’ve been to the west, I lost my way twice. >_< !

Events2

Tada! That’s what happened in the morning when I wasn’t there… So much fun and food!!! hehe…
That’s a charity cut that Jeric has organized for residents of the St. Luke’s home.

They even have something like this in the mall to educate shoppers on the importance of saving energy. I’m impressed! I think we should all do our parts for the environment, else Singapore might even cease to exist in the future..

When Mr. Foong and I saw the egg, we stared blank. Are we supposed to eat the egg raw of something?

Actually, we are supposed to mix the egg and pour it into the the Katsu chicken… I know I’m very sua-ku!
Don’t laugh at me…

This is the signature ice-skating ring at JCube. There’s already a lot of people trying this out on the first day… Wootx!

Oh my…. So cute…..

A view of the bus-interchange from JCube… Really, it’s just across the road from the Jurong East MRT Station / Bus Interchange.

We left this place at about 7.30pm for Katong and there’s still scrolls of car streaming in at the car-park.

We met with Tetsuya (the director of Jeric Salon @ 112 Katong) and went for dinner after that at this Bak Ku Teh place along Joo Chiat road.

This place is super funny. I told the aunty I want “Teh Peng”. She asked me “Ang mo teh huh” ?  -_-!
Haha… First time I drink teh-peng got tea bag sticking out one.. So cute… haha…

The Week of Blogger Meet-ups and Nice Food

March 8, 2012  |  Events, Exclusive, Food Adventures, Jeric Salon, My Life  |  Share
UPDATE: Just a quick update, I’m no longer doing PR/Biz Development for Jeric Salon, as of April 28, 2012. Will be transitioning to a Jeric Salon sponsored blogger instead. Do keep a look out on my latest happenings via my latest posts.

Last week was break week in SMU, but a really busy week for me at Jeric Salon. If you missed my previous post; I’m helping Jeric in the PR & Business Development areas. Spent the entire week at Ion Orchard trying to understand the business better and also meet-up with bloggers whom we’ve invited for a chat for potential hair sponsorship.

They include DJ Misty, Honey Lim and the famous Naomi Neo.

One major achievement: I’ve learn how to wash hair and do head-massage. Lucky whoever is my future wife.

IMG_4067.JPG

We hosted DJ Misty at Ion Orchard last friday where the director Kai Ting personally attend to Misty. Jeric also gracefully joined in for a photoshot.

IMG_4070.JPG

On tuesday (March 6… My birthday!!!), Honey Lim dropped by our Bugis Outlet and enjoyed a suite of treatment directly from Bugis Director Michelle and her assistant.

Oh my… So fast and it’s thursday (today!)… Oh my! Can I have like 72 hours a day… Like seriously, I think I spend too much time on Twitterverse lately. I have 4K+ followers! YAY!!!

This is not my girlfriend. Don’t get mistaken arh! Although very pretty…
I was just showing-off to her all the cool photo apps I have on my iPhone, and instantly took a photo of her and edited it. haha..

On the recommendation of Arthur, we had lunch at this Sushi place (Sushi Express) at Citylink Mall where everything was $1.50, with 1 free cheesecake per head.

Wooo… Look at those cakes swirling past???

Self-service green tea.. Looks a bit cheepo compared to the ones I had at Itacho. But it actually taste okay.. Not that bad as it seems. haha…

The tap to get hot-water. I wish I have one of this in my room too… Den I can cook like… instant noodles anytime I want!

Each of these Sushi is just $1.50! They didn’t pay me to blog ok!

Even the damn Wasabi and Ginger is on the conveyor. WTF! I was chasing this two things like an idiot lah! Whoops… *unglam*

Hur hur! Dont know why this plate got light.. haha.. that aunty keep looking at me take photo and siam me! But… catch-cha!

White-bait Sushi… Looks pretty don’t you think?

Don’t recommend the egg sushi though. Taste like the egg at QiJi more than the jap type. Try at own risk.

Arthur ordered this special smoked salmon.. Hahaha…
It was not a lunch date with Wan Ting… Just in case you were thinking something else.

The aunty roasting the Salmon in front of us, and so graciously giving me such a good angle for this shot!

Oh my… This is like the best thing… Seriously!
TIP for Readers: If you don’t ask for this, you don’t get it!

Looks like Macha ice-cream right? Nah! This is Macha Mua-ji. I don’t recommend the desert here as it sits on the conveyor too long and is no longer cold.

HAPPY FRIDAYS!!!!!

I am finally back here for good.. from the 20 day hiatus

February 12, 2012  |  Gossips  |  Share

Hellos, 안녕하세요, こんにちは, 你好, if you had been following my blog, you will be wondering where have I been for the past 20+ days. Don’t worry… I didn’t disappear, was just super busy with many events and assignments.

In this 20 plus day, so many things have happened…. We saw tuesday transition to a new lunar year, I was mentioned on newspaper, I took up a new position at Jeric Salon, I submitted 7 assignments, my twitter followers went from mere 120 to over 1500 now (Yay!!!), I began working out again by signing a gym membership, bought a new bag, made some new friends, drank half a can of coffee powder already, re-organized my room with new furnitures and the list goes on…..

Ok… Before I go into the details, here are some shots I caught in the past year… Yes!!! I am not letting it go unmentioned!!!

Like a Bro

A pair of twins falling asleep on the bus… Don’t you think they look very cute and brotherly?

Xiao Bai

This is my cute little rabbit… She’s 1yrs old and she grows fatter by the day. Girls somehow go crazy over her! Maybe I should bring her to zouk next time; not that I’ve been sidelined at zouk. But what better way to get the attention of cute young babes with a loving heart? Jking~

IMG_3933

See my name? I was quite surprised when I got a tweet from TNP reporter about it. But I guess it is a pleasant surprise. In the socialmedia space, the early bird gets the worm to eat. Maybe that’s why blogger Alvin brands his blog as “Yes you saw it here first”?

Dragon Paws

I have been wearing this lovely pair of slippers around and many friends have commented that it’s very cute. So I thought I share a picture of it here. Somehow it attracts a lot of attention when I wear it out.

.
..

….
..
..
. OKAY. After thinking for sometime, I shall not post all the stale news, cos no one is going to need it or read it anyways. hahaa… >_< Late bird got no worm to eat!?!

Jeric has been especially kind to sponsor my hair over the past year and I’m very grateful for it. We got to know each other in 2007 when I first went to him, through a friend’s recommendation. Over the years, we got to know each other better, and eventually became friends. Jeric has asked me on several occasions if I was interested to help him out, and Feb 2012, I thought, this is the right time for me. Besides it’s going to be a lot of fun; I’d be doing something I love doing anyways: Social Media. My quest now will be to help Jeric develop a feasible social media strategy. If you are a blogger and interested to work with us, I’d be happy to meet up with you to discuss more. Drop me a note at darren-at-jeric.sg.

There is going to be some major changes in my blog in the coming months. Will get proper professional photography done up for my site in the coming weeks, as well as setting a visual theme for photos so that my blog don’t look like rainbow. I’ve also set some new exciting direction for my content. Stay tuned!

Have a great week ahead! For me, FML! Full of mid-terms next week. I hope I will be sadistic enough to enjoy it. If you manage to find a way to enjoy exams, tell me how! Oh ya. Please follow-me ya? http://www.twitter.com/darrensim

The december that I went missing for 18 days

December 19, 2011  |  Gossips  |  Share
UPDATE: Just a quick update, I’m no longer doing PR/Biz Development for Jeric Salon, as of April 28, 2012. Will be transitioning to a Jeric Salon sponsored blogger instead. Do keep a look out on my latest happenings via my latest posts.

After sleeping my entire sunday away, I’m proud to announce that I’m back and kick-in after being missing in actions for the past 18 days. Although my job was quite stress-free, but the fact that I’ve multiple commitments (teaching, preparing proposal for project tenders, preparing project proposals, helping friend edit their website, playing aunt agony, and the list goes on), made my past weeks especially tiring.

My original plan to go back to Taiwan (I’m Singaporean, but I love Taiwan so much that I always joked with friends that I’m   a Taiwanese born and bred in Singapore -_-) was interrupted by work commitments this december; probably I will visit Taiwan in April next year instead. But guess what!!! Many of my friends are visiting Taiwan this december, and Xue Ling got me this bigger sized Rabbit Pig stuffed toy, than the one I had hanging on my bag. Ain’t she sweeeeeet?  Angel

For the past 5 years that I’ve been doing corporate training (yes, although I can be a little “himbo” sometimes, but I do have brains ok! haha), I’ve to say my students in December 2011 were the sweetest!!! This lovely box of Ferrero is from JiaHui, a very lovely and hardworking and passionate girl from my final class for the year.

Introducing my hairstylist - Kai Ting, the Director of Jeric Salon Ion. As some of you might already know, I’m quite particular about my hair; and I’ve to say that I’m really fortunate to be offered a hair sponsorship by Jeric Salon for the past 12+ months. What I liked about Jeric Salon (yes, I used to be a paying customer at Jeric Salon for 3+ years before I was offered the hair sponsorship) is the good service and the easy to maintain, yet stylist cuts. I will begin writing more about the hair culture in my coming posts.. STAY TUNED!!!

My hair color until Saturday, very korean pop kind of color. I am kind of bored of this color and since the roots are darkening, I decided it’s time to get a new color

My new awesome hair color (it’s blue-ish ash) recommended by Kai. To get this color, first the hair needs to be bleached at various intensities at different parts of the hair, and the dye was applied to only the top and bottom layer, so that the middle layer is still gold, creating an awesome color contrast.

My bad that I went by the Salon too late thus we only ended at about 9.30. We (Kai and I) originally wanted to go to this really famous Ramen place, but by the time we reached there, it closed. In the end, we settled for this pretty nice japanese place (Tamo something. Can’t really remember the name of the place) at Clark Quay after doing my hair.

My little fish + garlic + plum rice & miso soup. Although the portion is not too big, but it is really tasty. I don’t mind eating this on a daily basis. Inexpensive, and healthy.

Kai’s curry udon. I think it was too spicy for him. Can tell that he didn’t really like it, but he still finished it up, not wanting to waste food.

A very special mushroom salad with half-boiled egg. This is my favorite dish for the night.

Unagi Eel with special rice-cake. It tastes really good when you just put the whole thing in your mouth. Awww…

What is a Japanese meal without Chawamushi? hahaha… Somehow I thought the taste is very similar to that of Sushi Tei. I still prefer the one at Itacho-Sushi.
