At 7.40pm on Monday evening, the father and son duo, Rick and Corey Harrison, took a leisurely and scenic boat ride along the Clarke Quay’s Riverside Quay and received a warm welcome from guests before arriving at their media meet and greet session held at Brewerkz Restaurant & MicroBrewery.
Singapore was the third country out of the five countries in their Asia tour- their aim: to encourage sponsorships in History Channel’s new TV series and other developments.
The Pawn Stars reality TV series features a family-run pawnshop in Las Vegas, where three generations of men from the Harrison family; Grandfather Richard (a.k.a Old Man), son Rick, grandson Corey; and their friend, Chumlee, jointly run the world famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. Known for their sharp-eyed skills in asssessing value of items and their reputation for having an upper hand in bargaining, many have grown to love the honest opinions they give and the camaraderie on screen.
They demonstrated their assessment of antiques and paintings live during the meet and greet session, thus upholding their reputation of being accurate assessors.
The pawning industry in Asia has always been perceived as an unglamorous one, meant only for people who are poor and in need of immediate cash. During the interview, they also shared their initial worries of the lack of viewers when they started filming the TV series. However, it seems that the Pawn Stars have been successful in making pawning look sexy in Asia, drawing massive crowds in consumer events held at Asia and also crowned as number one factual entertainment show in Singapore and Malaysia.
In Singapore, the Pawn Stars were in the look out for great buys as they toured around iconic sites and sampled the world famous culinary treats. Having also visited pawn shops in Singapore, they found it strange for a pawn shop to have such high security in a country with “almost no crime”. When they were asked how did they find Singaporeans, they said, Singaporeans were “nice people”.
History Channel premieres Pawn Stars Season 9 and 10, delivering all new Pawn Stars episodes every Monday at 10pm for the remainder of 2013.
